Other tumors of ‘embryonal’ origin Not all cerebellar lesions are medulloblastomas, or even tumors (Fig. 7.9). Other tumors in this category, including CNS neuroblastoma and ganglioneuroblastoma, primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNET) and rhabdoid tumors, are all quite rare. Collectively, these tumors represent less than 1% of childhood brain tumors and usually occur before 2 years of age. The tumors are similar in neuroimaging and histologic appearance to cerebellar medulloblastomas. The treatment is the same but the

prognosis is much worse. Children with nonpineal supratentorial PNETs have an overall 5year survival rate of 34%.
