Medium Compression stockings (unless severe leg ischaemia) or intermittent pneumatic compression leggings plus: Subcutaneous heparin (5000 IU 2 hours before surgery and 12hourly till fully mobile)

High Compression stockings and/or intermittent pneumatic compression leggings plus: Subcutaneous heparin started before surgery (approx. 5000 IU 8hourly) to keep APTT 1.5-2.5 of control value or Warfarin to INR of 2-3 or Consider formal monitored anticoagulation in very high-risk cases

being prescribed an antiemetic, should have one that promotes gastric emptying, provided that they do not have intestinal obstruction. Starved, elective patients who are having the risk of PONV reduced, can be prescribed something that acts more centrally, e.g. ondansetron.
