Antivagal drugs The vagus affects gastric acid secretion by two mechanisms. It has a direct action on the parietal cell via M1-muscarinic receptors on the surface of the cell. It also stimulates the secretion of gastrin from the antrum of the stomach, a hormone released in response to food entering the stomach.
