ABSTRACT
In any emergency, vascular access for resuscitative fluid and drug administration is crucial. However, in the critically ill neonatal or paediatric patient, obtaining adequate venous access is often difficult and time-consuming. By placing an intraosseous needle, venous access can usually be obtained rapidly, permitting immediate delivery of resuscitative fluids and medications to the central circulation.
