The rotameter block The physics of rotameters is described in Chapter 37. A typical flowmeter assembly is shown in Figure 8.36 and in cross-section in Figure 8.37. It is subject to stringent design criteria. For UK practice, these are set down in British Standard BS 4272. The flow is read at the top of the float which should always be spinning freely away from the walls of the tube. Free spinning is seen by rotation of the spot or stripes on the bobbin.
