ABSTRACT
This section assumes that the adult patient who is fit and apyrexial, is admitted for an elective operation causing negligible blood loss. The procedure is such that the patient may not wish to take oral fluids normally in the first 24 hours. Examples of this could be:
? cholecystectomy; ? hysterectomy; ? major limb surgery; ? laminectomy.
