VIII Vestibulocochlear Special sensory
To vestibule, semicircular canals and cochlea of internal ear
Pathways for sense of position and movement of head (vestibular part) and for hearing (cochlear part)
IX Glossopharyngeal Sensory and special sensory; motor and secretomotor
To mucosa of pharynx and posterior third of tongue; to carotid sinus, parotid salivary gland and stylopharyngeus
Sensory nerve of pharynx and pharyngeal part of tongue; pathway for taste sensation from the latter; carries impulses from carotid sinus influencing blood pressure; assists swallowing and promotes salivation
