ABSTRACT
Advances in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and, most importantly, in the prevention of fracture, will depend, in the final analysis, on a better understanding of cell biology. In theory, it should be possible to develop bonesparing agents aimed precisely at the bone cells, ideally to increase bone formation, but the practical difficulties are considerable.
