ABSTRACT

Some aspects of diabetes care planning, execution and audit are considered in this chapter. The responsibilities of both primary and secondary health care sectors, their coordination and integration are outlined along with, most importantly, the responsibilities of the patient. Whether diabetes care is successful can only be assessed by auditing the process and the outcome, preferably at district level. The development of a satisfactory auditing system is described and the importance of such a system for improvements in standards of care is discussed.
