ABSTRACT
Literature 1885-1925, Athens: University of Georgia Press, 1992 Critical appraisal of the first American to have won the Nobel Prize for Literature (1930) has been thin on the ground in recent years. One reason for this might be found in a critical heritage that has consistently debated the literary value of Lewis’s writing, and tends to agree that his best work was limited to the 1920s.
