ABSTRACT

Mediation standards A comprehensive description of the mediator’s role is set out in the Charter on Mediation Practice and in the Revised Guidelines for Solicitors who act as Mediators. It is not the mediator’s role to give advice or opinions, make suggestions which may disadvantage a party, propose or endorse possible outcomes or support either party’s view. If the legal adviser is of the view that these standards, particularly those relating to neutrality, are not being met he/she should request a private meeting with the mediator immediately.
