ABSTRACT
The offence under s 47 is sometimes referred to as an ‘aggravated assault’, in that it is based on proving an assault which has some feature making it more serious, in this case that it results in actual bodily harm to the V. There are two other offences of this type which should be noted here, namely ‘assault with intent to resist arrest’, and ‘assault on a constable in the execution of his duty’.
