ABSTRACT
Fractures of the talus are uncommon, but important in view of the complex bony articulations, architecture and vascularity. The talus has a head, neck and body. The head articulates with the navicular, and the body articulates with the ankle mortise and the large posterior calcaneal facet. Over 60% of the talus is covered by articular cartilage. There are no muscle origins or insertions.
