ABSTRACT

The majority of flexor tendon injuries follow a laceration. The anatomy is complex. A synovial sheath surrounds the tendons, containing synovial fluid for nutrition and lubrication. A fibroosseous tunnel encloses the sheath, consisting of five thickened annular (A) bands, and three cruciform (C) pulleys. The A2 and A4 pulleys are the most important in preventing bow stringing and overlie the shaft of the proximal and middle phalanges respectively.
