ABSTRACT
The priority in trauma management is, of course, resuscitation, following the principles of ATLS, with airway, breathing, circulation and haemorrhage control, ‘saving life before limb’. Control of the spine is paramount during resuscitation and transfer. The spine is immobilized in the neutral supine position, on a long spinal backboard, with a hard neck collar, tape and sandbags.
