ABSTRACT

The medical certificates that are completed for transmission to the Registrar of Births and Deaths serve both legal and statistical purposes. A death must be registered before a funeral director can proceed with the final arrangements for the body. There are three types of death certificate:

• Stillborn certificate (after 24 weeks of pregnancy). • Neonatal Death Certificate (any death up to 28 days of age). • Medical Certificate of Death (any other death).
