ABSTRACT
Having established the role of virally encoded proteins in replication and assembly of plant viruses, we need to consider the function of other viral genes and proteins in infection. These roles include facilitating the spread of the virus from plant to plant, spread of viruses within plants, and regulation of processes to overcome defence responses within the plant and to ensure a suitable environment for replication and spread.
