ABSTRACT
Under normal circumstances temperature is under strict physiological control with core temperature maintained at 37±0.2°C. Temperature sensors in the core and periphery relay afferent impulses to the hypothalamus. Efferent mechanisms consist of hypothermiainduced cutaneous vasoconstriction, shivering and hyperthermia-induced vasodilatation and sweating.
