ABSTRACT
Viral hepatitis in humans is caused by at least five viruses (Table 1.1) for which the liver is the major site of replication. A variety of other viruses (Table 1.2) occasionally show marked hepatotropism. The symptoms of acute and persistent virus replication in the liver are remarkably consistent despite the diversity of viruses involved.
