ABSTRACT

This chapter is essentially about real estate portfolios, collections of interests in land and buildings, and issues relating to their performance. It begins with a brief introduction to the nature and classification of real estate portfolios, and an insight into what is meant by the term performance. This is followed by separate sections focusing on performance measurement and analysis of different types of real estate portfolios, namely investment and corporate (or operational) portfolios. While the focus is largely on matters relating to real estate, this is not possible without reference to a range of issues relating to the wider investment marketplace, consequently such issues have been incorporated in the discussion as relevant and appropriate.
