ABSTRACT

Debit cards have become quite popular as a means of withdrawing and depositing money from an account 24 hours a day (save at servicing time) without having to line up in the bank to see a teller to perform the same transaction during regular banking hours. At the ATM, a customer can use his debit card to withdraw and deposit money, make account inquiries and pay utility bills (as happens here in Trinidad and Tobago). These are, of course, not analogous to the features of the cheque system.
