ABSTRACT
It is easy to ignore chimney stacks when inspecting a building. They do, however, give rise to a number of defects, including structural failure, dampness and, of course, leakage of gases and smoke. All these can be significant hazards. Remember, also, that chimney stacks that appear fairly sound from the ground may look much worse on closer inspection.
