ABSTRACT

The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) was established on 12 April 1988 as a member of the World Bank Group. Its purpose is to encourage foreign direct investment in developing countries by providing guarantees to foreign private investors (that is, political risk insurance) against the risks of transfer restriction, expropriation, and war and civil disturbance in the host country, and to offer investment marketing services to host governments on means to improve their ability to attract foreign direct investment.
