ABSTRACT

The law of tort is a branch of civil law, and so involves the rights and duties of individuals. Liability in tort is imposed by the law and arises from the breach of a duty owed to others. One of the most important torts today is the tort of negligence, and this covers a range of situations, eg where action is taken against a hospital for wrongful treatment, or against a careless driver for causing injury to another road user.
