ABSTRACT

Mr and Mrs S bought cheap flights over the internet to attend their son’s wedding in the United States. They took out travel insurance in case anything went wrong.

A fortnight before the wedding date, the bride wrote to them saying that she had cold feet and the wedding was being postponed while she and the groom thought things over. There was no chance of a refund on the flights-which is, of course, why cheap flights are cheap –so Mr and Mrs S claimed on their travel insurance, which had offered cover against cancelled flights. To their surprise, the insurers refused to pay.
