ABSTRACT
We use the term ‘specialised court’ in a somewhat loose way, since it may refer to something which is not a separate court at all. For example, we may have a specialised jurisdiction within an ordinary court, such as a magistrates’ court, which may deal with juvenile matters. If we wish to describe a specialised court, tribunal, jurisdiction or function, it may be seen as one authorised by law to take cognisance of certain special and specified causes and matters. It has a limited jurisdiction which concerns only those types of cases.
