ABSTRACT

There are many tools and techniques, but one must be careful to choose those that are best suited to their own personal style as well as to the nature of the people–and the culture of the organisation–that they are trying to change. An alternative way of thinking about what "sides" people are on is to consider whether they are pretenders, leaders, dissenters or followers, depending on their agreement with the change and also their effort to implement. Hussey's "integrated organisation" is a good model that integrates all the elements needed for an organisation to successfully navigate a major change programme. Things such as one’s change management programme might be going seriously awry and everyone knows it except him. Really good project management is almost a separate management discipline–with its own language, tools and methods. Allow a healthy chunk of time during the life of the project for chasing up slothful partners and the inevitable crisis management.
