ABSTRACT

The central theme underlying the 1999 International Olympic Committee (IOC) World Conference on Doping in Sport was, without any doubt, the issue of harmonisation. Of all issues confronting international sports, the harmonisation of current anti-doping rules and regulations remains one of the most difficult and potentially discordant topics under current debate. This review will re-examine the key issues of the topic, analyse and comment on the depth and breadth of adherence to new protocols developed to harmonise current anti-doping procedures and regulations, and determine the progress of the harmonisation process over the past five years. It is hoped that this review will assist and augment the processes of evolution and change in current anti-doping regulations and policy.
