ABSTRACT

The following notes include all of the primary sources cited in the preceding chapters. A separate accounting of the manuscripts, rare books, postcolonial newspapers, nineteenth-century journals, school reports, and other contemporary sources consulted for this study would produce far more text than most readers want or require. Where appropriate, I have tried to direct the reader's attention to relevant secondary sources that might be of interest. To researchers interested in finding good archival sources, the following discussion briefly describes the most important sources for the primary material appearing in this book.
