ABSTRACT

It frequently appears that the needs of the stalking victim are overlooked once the criminal justice system becomes involved in a case. One Crown Prosecution Service solicitor exemplified this:

Although this attitude towards victims of crime may prevail regardless of the nature of the crime, it can be particularly damaging in stalking cases, where victims tend to feel disempowered and deprived of control by the process of victimisation. The law should seek to restore that which the criminal has destroyed, thus the victim’s needs should be taken into account.
