ABSTRACT

The Sewage Sludge Directive108 regulates the spreading of sewage sludge on farmland and puts controls on the storage of slurry.109 The use of untreated sludge on agriculture is to be stopped and follows the reform of the Sludge Disposal Directive. The Control of Pollution (Silage Slurry and Agricultural Fuel Oil) Regulations 1991 set minimum standards for the construction of new or improved waste stores. They can apply to existing stores if there is a risk of serious pollution. Smells may be a statutory nuisance.
