ABSTRACT
Here, the child is born lacking most or all of a higher brain and is bound to die, usually in a matter of days or weeks. Such babies could be kept alive never to become conscious or respond to human beings. If other babies are born with intact brains, but defective hearts or kidneys, doctors may want to use organs from the anencephalic baby to save the life of the baby with other defective organs. Thus, that baby must be ventilated, which poses a problem about the point at which he actually dies.
