European Community (EC) law is to be found in the various treaties from which the European Union (EU) is derived;2 in numerous pieces of legislation passed by Community institutions; in international treaties to which the EU is party and which become binding on Member States; and in the judgments and principles of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) (see Note on Terminology, p ix).
