ABSTRACT

The system of species protection (like the Birds Directive of 1979)30 has three elements. Firstly, there is a general prohibition (Art 12) against the capture, killing, keeping, transport or marketing of the animal species listed in Annex IV as well as the taking of eggs or the destruction of breeding sites. Provisions protecting those plant species listed in Annex IV(b) from picking, collecting, cutting, uprooting and marketing appear in Art 13.
