ABSTRACT

The Bamako Convention 1991 (30 ILM (1991) 775) establishes a regional treaty regime which prohibits trade in waste, thus giving effect to the positions adopted by many African governments in the negotiations on the Basel Convention (Sands (1995) 507). The Convention entered into force in April 1998. Although to a large extent the Bamako Convention incorporates a similar regime to the Basel Convention, there are several very important differences.
