ABSTRACT
It is implicit in everything I have written that the community sector has been vital in helping create the social, political and cultural response to HIV/AIDS - that is, we cannot understand the shape of the epidemic, as distinct from its virology, without understanding the work of hundreds of thousands of people who have built up a worldwide response from the grassroots.
