ABSTRACT

Many of the permitted development rights contained in the GPDO (Sched 2, Part 1) are restricted to the curtilage of the dwelling house. Under normal circumstances, this is not a difficult concept to apply as it will relate to the garden or outdoor area attached to the dwelling. There are, however, instances where the matter becomes highly complex not only related to permitted development rights but also particularly in the case of listed buildings (see Chapter 20).
