ABSTRACT

Within a conservation area, there may well be listed buildings which are subject to control as outlined above (para 20.2) and which cannot be demolished without the grant of listed building consent. There will, however, be many buildings within the conservation area which are not worthy of listing in their own right but the demolition of which would have an adverse affect upon the general character of the area. Control over demolition of buildings within a conservation area is, therefore, extended (ss 74 and 75) to all buildings within the area and ‘conservation area consent’ is required before demolition can proceed.
