ABSTRACT

David Calvert-Smith QC, 'Quicker judgment for Solomon' (2001) NL] 8 Solomon Grundy was caught on Monday, in custody on Tuesday, attended a bail hearing on Wednesday and ended up in the Crown Court the following Thursday. I mangle a popular nursery rhyme and my apologies to the author, but it catches in a few lines the changes to the criminal justice system, which will lead to serious crimes being dealt with faster. For those who have ever been involved in a serious criminal case, the process can sometimes seem to go on forever. But this long drawn out process will soon be a thing of the past for more serious cases or indictable-only-those that must be heard in the Crown Court.
