ABSTRACT

It is a trite observation that the predominant role of the judiciary is to interpret the laws of the land fairly and to dispense justice impartially, and without fear or favour, between individuals or the individual and the State. In this way, the judiciary makes a meaningful contribution to the maintenance of law and order and, consequently, the maintenance of peace within its jurisdiction.
