ABSTRACT

The building was an old church in Kreuzberg. It was recently sold to Anatolian Alevis, who not only did not mind conducting their rituals (cem) in a church, but who were utterly pleased to have an entire building of their own as the embodiment of the revitalization of their long hidden identity It was a time of glorious self-expression and this building, with its tall ceilings, stained-glass windows, and its awesome altar was the perfect architectural manifestation of that re-emergence.
