ABSTRACT
The Berlin Turkish Hearth (Berlin Türk Ocaği), a local member association of the Federation of Democratic Idealist Turkish Associations in Europe (ADÜTDF), was not easy to locate in the city. But it turned out that finding them was the easy part of the whole attempt to interview some die-hard Turkish nationalists in the midst of Europe. 1 The first suspicious question was “whos sent you here?” Being affiliated with an American university certainly did not help. It took some convincing to reassure them that I was an innocent student of politics rather than a spy looking for trouble.
