ABSTRACT

In recent years, lawyers have recognised the need to be more businesslike in their professional dealings and changes in the law have mirrored that. The most fundamental changes have probably been seen in personal injury work where, for several years now, lawyers acting for claimants have been able to enter into agreements with them whereby they are paid a ‘success fee’ (subject to detailed rules) in the event of winning their case. This fee is over and above the normal costs they would be paid for winning.
