Decision making In the previous steps, a social worker, working on behalf of the local authority, will have considered the best approach to take in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child concerned. Decision making means that the child’s needs must be translated into aims and objectives, the available options listed, and a decision made as to the best option and the reasons for the decision clarified. The decision is then formulated into the care plan.
