ABSTRACT

This chapter on community care is intended as a companion piece to the preceding chapter rather than a direct commentary on it. Moreover, I approach the topic as someone who is not an expert on social policy or welfare economics. Instead, the aim is to step back from some of the technical details of policy and implementation, and to look in a very general way at what the idea of community care could mean; what values inform it; why it might be a worthwhile ideal to pursue; and to what problems it gives rise.
