As has been noted (para 1.2.4), most companies are limited by shares. Public companies may issue shares to the public (para 1.2.5).
Since the Financial Services Act 1986, The Stock Exchange has become a statutory-recognised regulatory body. The Stock Exchange is the competent authority in relation to listing of shares under the EC Listing Directives.
