ABSTRACT

The institutional factors of the support environment contain the services, personnel and conditions that develop and sustain learning in the institution. For example, the successful implementation of an instructional videotape in a classroom may depend on the videotape storage and equipment delivery services of the institution, both of which are institutional factors. If the videotape was being developed for distribution to a number of schools, successful implementation may also depend on factors such as site distribution and learning time allocations. These physical factors may determine whether the intended instruction can be successfully implemented after it is developed, or if the development project should be undertaken at all. The institutional factors are the tangible factors of the support environment. Intangibles such as organizational culture and organizational support are part of the organizational factors discussed in the next chapter.
