ABSTRACT

It is not reasonable to expect even a very well-designed diagram to be universally effective. The evaluation of an instructional diagram needs to take into account:

the nature of the learners who will be using the diagram (for example, are they beginners in the subject area or advanced students?)

the medium by which the diagram will be presented to the learners (for example, will it be part of a book or included in a computer-based package?)

the situation under which the diagram is to be used (for example, is it to form part of an open learning package or is it for use in a traditional classroom situation?).
