Timothy is at his most reassuring and least informative. Miss Obebe is worried about the cost of buying and selling. Her boyfriend was
going to help with the deposit on the purchase but he has just been made redundant. She is expecting a legacy from her father’s estate-he died last month. That is what prompted her to move; but her step-mother is claiming a share of the estate-under the Family Provision Act or something-she was separated from Olive’s dad and he left her nothing in the will. She does not know when the money will come through. She is a nurse but there are rumours that the hospital is going to close. She has had an offer from the building society and they seem happy about lending her 85% of the price; but they want her to take out an endowment mortgage-whatever that is-and there is payment for something called an called an excess guarantee policy. She is beginning to think of giving up the idea of moving and staying where she is.
