ABSTRACT

Blackacre passes from A to B to C to V. Each in turn is registered as proprietor. V is selling to P. The premise of registered title is that the register is V’s title; and is proof and guarantee of that title. The premise of unregistered conveyancing is that you can only be sure (relatively) of V’s title if you are sure of C’s title and that there has been a proper conveyance from C to V; that you can only be sure of C’s title if you are sure of B’s title and a proper conveyance from B to C; and so on.
